Revolutionary Mesh Tubing Machine

Transferring techniques from the textile industry to new industries and areas of application

At a Glance

  • Use of a rotary indexing ring instead of a turntable with gears
  • Ready-to-mount modules reduce construction times and costs
  • Large inner diameter and flat design
  • Zero-backlash gears for utmost positioning precision

Challenge

Bossert + Kast is a traditional manufacturer of jewellery chains in the "gold town" of Pforzheim. The aim was to transfer techniques which have been employed for centuries in the textile industry (such as production of cords, edgings and ribbons) to applications in the jewellery and medical industry. With the only exception of using fine precious metal strands instead of fibres.

Solution

The substructure of the mesh tubing machine was to be an upright turntable with flange-mounted gears. For this purpose a user-programmable NR 750 with customized drive was used. A large inner diameter and optimally matched modules reduce the construction time needed. The result: a universal mesh tubing machine offering application opportunities in the fields of medical technology, optics and mechanical engineering that have yet to be discovered.
